SUMMARY:The Auspicious Return of The Illustrious Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:evening of interstellar cosmic stuff – fresh from the fingertips and hearts of this crew of soul searching Psychedelic Country/Eastern\n\n\nILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTORS return to the Corazon stage in Topanga Canyon. An Interstellar Country & Eastern music experience- fresh from the psychedelic fingertips and hearts of a crew of soul searching string/mind benders. Celebrating Willie Aron’s 60th Birthday\, We have limited beverages to share complimentary and BYOB IS ALLOWED (no hard alcohol). \n9PM (doors open 8:30pm) $20 bucks GTD Sit down Chair $15 bucks Standing\, limited pillow seating. \nThe Illustrious Ancestors features multi-instrumentalist/urban griot John Kruth (TriBeCastan\, Hal Willner) on voice\, ?ELECTRIC MANDOLIN?FLUTE ?ELECTRIC SITAR\, harmonica\, and?BULBAL TARANG (Indian keyed zither)\, \nwith Willie Aron (The Balancing Act\, Syd Straw\, Thee Holy Brothers) on? KEYBOARD\, ?GUITAR and VOICE\, \n⚡BASSIST⚡ Dave Soyars \n⚡PERCUSSION⚡ Devin Flynn \n⚡KEYBOARDS⚡ Carolyn Soyars \n⚡DRUMMER⚡Perry Ostrin \nBlending their own funky brand of Americana roots with interstellar “Country and Eastern” jams (that blend pedal steel guitar and sitar!) the Illustrious Ancestors freely skip from songs to Kruth’s spell-binding and often hilarious stories to funky\, prodigious instrumental improvisation. \nTHE ILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTORS \n“The Illustrious Ancestors bring back the sense of surprise\, mystery and adventure that is missing from so much music today. Good luck trying to corner them into a category—every time you think you’ve got them nailed\, they throw another curve and you’re back where you started from. Add to that the band’s superior musicianship and open-armed embrace of so many different facets of the musical universe\, and you know that the Illustrious Ancestors are truly onto something.” \n– Jeff Tamarkin\, contributor to Mojo\, JazzTimes\, Relix\, & more. \n“What they do is undefinable\, kissed by fearlessness\, charm and mystery. Add to that heartfelt love for musical expression and serious artistry\, along with Kruth’s comic verbal flair. The Illustrious Ancestors\, all gifted players mix up great real-time gumbos of Americana-flavored exotica\, burning brightly on electric mandolin\, electric sitar\, harmonica\, flute\, bulbul tarang (an Indian zither) with Willie Aron on keys …. Kruth has coined the music “Country & Eastern” so that should give you a fair approximation of their music. But better than trusting me\, go to one of their shows – or maybe all of their shows – Be prepared to feel giddy. “– Paul Zollo – Senior Editor – American Songwriter\, Author of Conversations with Tom Petty and Songwriters on Songwriting \n \n“The authentically strange is at a premium these days. Those portals of shamanic transcendence on a planet so plastered with flash and filigree are still there for the adventurous… ya just gotta poke around\, and if you’re lucky\, you will find yourself in the same room with the Illustrious Ancestors. What kind of music is this? With its groove and ooze and tonic and spirit\, the Illustrious Ancestors’ music shimmers and segues to and fro: psychedelic blues\, jazz (funky and free)\, banshee bluegrass\, poetry kooky and sublime\, Mississippi Metal\, folk fantabulous and fearsome\, sublime “Space” worthy of the Dead’s late ‘60s best\, if Pigpen were still alive and morphed into a surrealist poet\, rhythms global and local… blink your ears and you’ll miss a reference or knowing gesture. There’s real drama here\, the kind that gets you gazing into that eternal/internal mirror and ponder what’s going to happen next. There’s wise\, sly humor and genuine romance here too. The kind that will put a smile on your puss and keep it there till it hurts as your heart reminds what a great thing it is to be alive.” – Oliver Trager – Author of The American Book of the Dead: The Definitive Grateful Dead Encyclopedia; Keys to the Rain: The Definitive Bob Dylan Encyclopedia and Dig Infinity! The Life & Art of Lord Buckley \n \n“What happens when the Garage rock of ? Mark and the Mysterians goes on a Country bender and then hitches a ride with a refugee Beat Jazz band on the lam? You wind up with The Illustrious Ancestors’ shadowy echoes of the Doors and the Dead tripping in the backseat.” – Kevin Orton Soundblab \n \n“John Kruth is the high-octane raconteur of the Underground” – Legendary Beat composer/musician/author David Amram \nAs Chief Black Fox (Sitting Bull’s Great\, Great\, Grandson) said after the Illustrious Ancestors second show: “I hear a lot of music\, see a lot of bands\, most of them have no soul. But this band\, The Illustrious Ancestors has a very big soul.” \n“I feel like I’m having a psycho-active experience and I didn’t even eat any ‘shrooms!” – Young Fan \nGuest Ancestors at past shows have included Camper Van Beethoven’s Victor Krummenacher on guitar and voice\, and Jonathan Segel\, violin\, guitar and voice\, as well as Victoria Williams on vocals and Chinese harp – So you’ll never know who is going to show up to jam!

DESCRIPTION:A Sonic Journey. TAKE IT. Final Fridays of each month\, featuring Uplifting Disco with GEM\, Highlighted DJ & Special Guests.\n\n\nOpening night of our new monthly features a very special guest\, DJ Jeremy Sole (KCRW / Le Frique Sonique). Disco & downtempo DJ sets & custom compositions featuring recording artist GEM & guests. \n==== \nA Sonic Journey. TAKE IT. Final Fridays of each month\, featuring Uplifting Disco with GEM\, Highlighted DJ & Special Guests. \nJEREMY SOLE : \nChicago-born Jeremy Sole has been making beats since the MPC60\, deejaying since rotary crossfaders were the standard\, and playing clubs since he was too young to (legally) get in. As a teenager\, Sole’s loft parties were a culture clash during the birth of Hip Hop and House music. He matured as a turntablist in Jazz\, Dub and experimental hybrid bands. Jeremy’s upbringing was seeped in the rich Chicago history of Blues\, Jazz\, Disco and Funk – and he reveled in that sacred space where they all blend together. As a kid he spent many nights in the alleys behind blues clubs listening through the air vents\, before heading downtown to mix at deep Disco loft parties. Meanwhile his obsession grew to include music from every corner of the world. In 2001 Sole moved to Los Angeles\, and with his broad musical palette he felt right at home in the spiciest melting pot in the country. \nJeremy has had the honor of sharing the stage and studio with hundreds of his creative inspirations\, including Roy Ayers\, Ben Harper\, Tony Allen\, DJ Shadow\, Stevie Wonder\, The Meters\, Chaka Khan\, Seu Jorge\, Antibalas\, Fat Freddy’s Drop\, Parliament\, Lee Scratch Perry\, Buck 65\, Quantic and Joe Bataan. He was the last DJ to open for Ray Charles\, deejayed for Sly Stone’s birthday party\, and had the distinct honor of mixing at the California Democratic Party’s Election Night Celebration – playing Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” for over 10\,000 people at the exact moment when Barack Obama officially became the 44th President. \n“Jeremy Sole was a revelation.” – Gilles Peterson (via Twitter\, after WMC 2010) \n“If I was a DJ full time\, I would most likely spin like Jeremy Sole. His mind and soul hears exactly what I hear. He makes Sunset Blvd feel groovy\, and that’s hard to do in my book.” – Raphael Saadiq \n“Jeremy Sole is a man of good taste & tasteful mixing. Los Angeles is lucky to have him …he’s a goldmine of music.” – Quantic \n“Jeremy Sole is not only a world class DJ\, but a world class citizen of the world. One of the nicest ugly dudes I’ve ever worked with haha. AND\, his beard is great for storing snacks and small tools on those long hot nights in the DJ booth. Jokes aside though\, one of my favorite dudes in the game hands down\, and a fucking phenomenal talent.” – Rich Medina \n“Jeremy is a great DJ\, presenter\, producer and knower-of-music …an extremely cool dude. I cannot stop listening to his remix of ‘I Put A Spell On You’ …it’s irresistible.” – Henry Rollins \n======== \nGEM loves producing dreamy downtempo\, disco\, ambient\, new age DJ sets and custom compositions in the studio alike. \nGEM has been featured on major Spotify tastemaker playlists\, played gigs and festivals across the world. She produces in 432hz to align with the magic of the universe. \nAs an artist\, GEM creates a beautiful sonic journey that allows audiences to move their bodies freely and connect with the universal spirit. GEM mixes electronic sounds with live\, organic instrumentation and layers soft\, shimmering vocals that feel like you’re floating on a cloud. She builds other worldly experiences using frequency and lush visuals. \n“It’s like GEM flew down from space right when the world was asking where are the young female producers”- BILLBOARD MAGAZINE \n“GEM is an artist you should know” ROLLINGSTONE \n“GEM is the #2 female producer in the world to watch right now”- SHOWBIZ MAGAZINE

SUMMARY:Chris Murphy's Seven Crows & Tim O'Gara's Donkey Bone Chronicles
DESCRIPTION:Chris Murphy\, violin virtuoso will be sharing his solo hauntingly beautiful body of work\, Seven Crows & Tim O’Gara’s Donkey Bone Chronicles\n\n\n SATURDAY\, JAN 28th\, 9PM Chris Murphy’s Seven Crows project & Tim O’Gara’s Donkey Bone Chronicles. Tim will be singing some new songs\, some old and some from his soon-to-be-released album: Underground Waltz. \nFEATURING: \nCHRIS MURPHY\, Violin and TIM O’GARA\, donkey bone jaw\, mouth harp\, guitar\, and other unusual sound instruments… \nTIM:O’GARA \n\n “A mix of Celtic flavors\, bluegrass\, acoustic jam band\, singer-songwriter waif and quirkiness. TIM’S voice is reminiscent of Paul Simon and the production often reminds me of Neil Young’s acoustic stuff\, but with more exotic instrumentation.” ~ DuJour\, former music critic for the NY Times\, LA Times\n\nCHRIS MURPHY: \n“ Based in Los Angeles\, a prolific songwriter\, composer\, and performer; Murphy presents his latest masterful instrumental opus Seven Crows: Secrets of Navigation. This 8-song cycle of layered violin compositions melds artfully nuanced plucked rhythmic figures\, lyrical phrasing\, and shimmering sustained lines\, all refracted by reverbs\, echoes\, and modulation pedals. \nOr\, perhaps you’ll arrive in the artsy Southwest enclave of Bisbee\, Arizona\, where Murphy tracked these ambient violin elegies with producer Dan Simonis. While violin is the only instrument being played\, don’t be surprised if you hear echoes of kalimba\, pipe organ\, birdsong\, bagpipes\, vintage synthesizers\, or Miles Davis’ wah-wah trumpet warbles coming from that fiddle. \n\n“Like fellow violin iconoclasts Warren Ellis (The Dirty Three) and Lisa Molinaro (Modest Mouse)\, Murphy travels with a supernatural violin in that beat-up\, brooding black case. Who knows what you’ll find in there\, or where it will take you. “ – James Rotundi\, Jazz Times\, Acoustic Guitar\n\n8:30PM DOORS OPEN \n$25 GTD SIT DOWN CHAIR SEATING \n$20 Standing\, Pillows\, Garden Listening (first come first serve) \nBYOB & beverages allowed.

Internationally renowned singer\, percussionist\, dancer and REMO Artist Alessandra Belloni will be playing the ocean drum\, recreating the sound of the waves of the ocean \, her Yemanja drum made by Remo that combines the sound of the water with the drum\, her line of Southern Italian tambourines and frame drums accompanied by a small ensemble of singers and percussionists. \nVida Vierra will sing the traditional Afro Brazilian Chants for Yemanja and Ochun\, Goddess of Love\, the Sea\, the Rivers accompanied by djembes\, congas\, pandeiro & bells. \nSouthern Italy and Brazil share their common roots in Africa and worship of the Black Madonna as African Mother. \nFollowing Alessandra’s book\, “Healing Journeys with the Black Madonna” (Inner Traditions Bear and Co.\, 2019)https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Journeys-Black- Madonna-Practices/dp/15914 The concert will narrate the legend of the 7 Sisters \, or seven Black Madonnas: \nThe last one was believed to be the ugliest so she ran away to a high mountain “Mount Partenio” so that the pilgrims had to search hard to find her. When they found Her they saw that she was the most beautiful of all\, She was Black and they called her “Mamma Schiavona” the nurturing\, serving mother\, to be found now in MONTEVERGINE. She is also the patron of the gay & transgenders. \nThese Madonnas are connected to seven Goddesses that are part of the ancient worship of Mother Earth and the archetype of the African Mother\, especially Isis from Egypt. \nCountries around the world\, including Southern Italy\, Brazil\, Africa and the Middle East have musical traditions based on the power of women chants & drumming. Belloni and company will emulate one of the most ancient ways of praying and healing\, including sacred chanting to the Black Madonna sung by female voices in harmony\, accompanied by various percussion instruments (frame drums\, tambourines\, shakers\, djembes\, dumbecks\, riqqs\,). Dancers will spin and stomp their feet in celebration of life and peace..
