SUMMARY:Qwanqwa - ቋንቋ Experimental Ethiopian Supergroup in Topanga Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Qwanqwa is a supergroup of musicians from the baddest bands of Addis Ababa\, Ethiopia.\n\n\nCorazon is honored to announce Fri May 17th\, 2024 at 9pm\, live and direct from the Horn of Africa\, Ethiopia’s QWANQWA return to North America–and to Corazon’s eclectic ethnic music hub in Topanga Canyon. \nQwanqwa is a supergroup of musicians from the baddest bands of Addis Ababa\, Ethiopia. Brought together by a shared passion for the power of Ethiopian music\, this 5-piece shines with an experimentalism and virtuosity based in deeply rooted traditions. With swirling masinko (one-stringed fiddle)\, wah-wah-violin\, bass krar boom\, and the unstoppable rhythm of heavy kebero (goat-skin drum) beats\, powerful traditional lead African diva vocals\, Qwanqwa keeps the people wrapped in celebratory attention. After making a splash at world-renowned festivals Roskilde and WOMEX and three successful European tours under their belt\, this world-traveling ensemble is hitting the road for a MacArthur Foundation-backed debut US tour in 2022. \n \n\nTICKETS ARE $45 or 2 for $80 \n$25 Corazon members (must have an active monthly membership of any level)\n\n \nQwanqwa draws inspiration from East Africa regions of Ethiopia and beyond. Delving deep into regional beats and moods\, the repertoire ranges from the trance-like songs of the Eritrean tribe of Blen to Somalian rock numbers to Mahmoud Ahmed sing-a-longs. The music is characterized by tight arrangements and extended improvisation. The live show ranges from intimate to wild\, from whispery conversations to full blown rock show\, with psychedelic sounds that are hard to believe come from traditional harp and violin. It is driving\, powerful\, and different than anything else coming out of Ethiopia in this current Golden Age of Ethiopian music. \nThe ensemble was founded in 2012 by American violinist Kaethe Hostetter\, who first worked in Ethiopian music as a founding member of critically acclaimed Sub Pop recording artists Debo Band. Since relocating to Addis in 2009\, she has participated in numerous exploratory and professional projects\, as she honed her sound and immersed herself further into the culture of her surroundings. In this sense\, Qwanqwa\, the Amharic word for “language\,” is a project creating dialogues between cultures. \nCurrent members of Qwanqwa are Endris Hassen (masinko)\, Kaethe Hostetter (violin)\, Bubu Teklemariam (bass krar)\, Selamnesh Zemene (vocalist)\, and Misale Legesse (kebero). They have appeared internationally with Getachew Mekuria\, The EX\, Thurston Moore\, Fred Frith\, Butch Morris\, Debo Band\, Nile Project\, Fendika\, Mahmoud Ahmed\, Mulatu Astatke\, Addis Acoustic\, Ethiocolor\, Atse Teodros\, Mohammed “Jimmy” Mohammed\, and Imperial Tiger Orchestra\, and have played stages from Lincoln Center to Bonnaroo\, Jazzfest (New Orleans)\, Moers Festival\, Roskilde\, WOMEX\, WOMAD and more. \nAn integral and constant presence in Addis Ababa nightlife scene\, Qwanqwa has released three albums: Volume One (2014)\, Volume Two (2015)\, and Volume Three (2020). \n \nHardship tickets are also available. BYOB is fine. Enjoy dinner prior at Endless Colors Pizza next door…Outside listening areas are available as well!

SUMMARY:Mariee Siou in Topanga Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Mariee Siou is a healing singer\, wordsmith and visionary artist\, channeling and transmitting medicinal qualities through her folk music\n\n\nDon’t miss the magic and wordsmithing of this visionary folk artist (and peace activist) in Topanga Canyon on Thursday May 16th! Mariee Siou is coming to Corazon and we are honored! Prepare for a very special evening in the heart vessel of this creative hub and eclectic space with the Corazon Secret Garden under the sycamore trees\, frogs and crickets will surely serenade! \n \n\nDoors 8:15pm \nPERFORMANCE: 8:30pm\n$25 chair / $20 pillow seating\n\nMariee Sioux Sobonya was born on the Humboldt coast in Arcata\, California. When she was two her family moved to the Sierra Nevada foothills in the Yuba River watershed in Northern California\, to pursue their dream of farming and living off the land. She was raised on their small farm whose surrounding lands were originally occupied by the Nisenan people before the cultural and environmental decimation that occurred at the hands of expansionist migrants and settlers during the gold rush\, and has come to be known as Nevada City (the Nisenan still survive in tragically small numbers and continue to fight for visibility and Federal recognition). \nMariee grew up surrounded and deeply touched by music—going to bluegrass festivals and listening to her father’s bluegrass band—but held no particular personal musical ambitions. However\, she taught herself to play the guitar at 18 while volunteering at a school for Mapuche children in Patagonia\, Argentina\, and wrote her first songs here while taking refuge from the Patagonia winds indoors. She continued finger picking and writing songs and would make two home-recorded albums purely at the urging of friends. In 2007 she released her first studio album\, Faces in the Rocks\, on which she collaborated with Native American flutist Gentle Thunder and which achieved a dedicated cult following that would propel her career to this day. She began touring Europe as well as North America and has continued ever since. \nMariee Siou has learned to more consciously embrace her role in the ancient and new tradition of healer-singers who have always helped hold the human social fabric together. Through music she attempts to fill a cultural void left by severed connections to her Polish\, Hungarian\, and Indigenous North American heritages and to thereby address the broader cultural voids felt by Americans today. She does this “with hopes of enticing the sacred work of grief back into our lives from the exile American society has placed it in”—and this is strongly evident in her 2019 release Grief in Exile\, as well as in her forthcoming EP Circle of Signs. \nThe songs continue to come to Mariee Siou\, and her approach as a singer continues to mature. The flowing melodies and quivering vibrato of her voice\, as well as the poetry itself\, continue to locate themselves and their work with a more solidly grounded precision as to just what that work is. Her most recent songs most deeply reflect this clarity of vision and acceptance of both her role as an artist and the endless need for that role in this changing world. Mariee Siou brings us back to the child and the grandmother in ourselves\, in a time in which it has never been more needed — and she intends to keep it up as long as she has a voice.

SUMMARY:Mia Doi Todd with Andres Renteria and Jesse Peterson
DESCRIPTION:Mia Doi Todd performs with Andres Renteria and Jesse Peterson in celebration of the vinyl release of her instrumental album Morning Music.\n\n\nMia Doi Todd is known for her quiet\, haunting songs\, usually conveyed through her evocative and instantly recognizable voice. With a deep body of work spanning twelve albums\, and as a collaborator on records by Laraaji\, José Gonzalez\, Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio)\, Scientist\, and more recently with André 3000 and Carlos Niño on New Blue Sun\, Mia is an essential element in the richly woven tapestry of underground music in her native Los Angeles. \n \nMorning Music is an instrumental\, ambient experience unlike anything else in her catalog. Originally released as a CD in 2009 and now available for the first time on vinyl\, Mia chose to forgo vocal expression and give full range to the voices of her instruments and the sounds around them. It is a gorgeous\, softly stirring work of art that makes full use of its minimal elements. Mia recorded and mixed the tracks at her own Château des Chats Studio in Frogtown\, Los Angeles\, playing harmonium\, piano\, tin whistle\, tamboura\, acoustic guitar\, and drums. On the tracks “Samai’i” and “Emotion\,” she is joined by multi-instrumentalist Andres Renteria on cajon\, piano\, wooden stool\, and udu. Birds and traffic\, heard softly in the distance\, feel like a natural and comforting part of the proceedings. The small dramas of the piano and tin whistle resolve peacefully\, like thoughts arising and falling in meditation. However one chooses to listen\, Morning Music is a lovely and aptly named collection of music to encourage even the weariest minds and bodies to quietly awaken. \n \nOn Morning Music\, Laraaji writes: “HEARTFULLY SOFT AND ECSTATIC MUSIC COLLABORATION…….I enjoy being carried along as these two musicians’ sound passenger….. the journey unfolds vibrantly through ecstatic improvisation and inventions” \n \nhttps://miadoitodd.com/ \nhttps://miadoitodd.bandcamp.com/album/morning-music

SUMMARY:The Auspicious Return of The Illustrious Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:evening of interstellar cosmic stuff – fresh from the fingertips and hearts of this crew of soul searching Psychedelic Country/Eastern\n\n\nILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTORS return to the Corazon stage in Topanga Canyon. An Interstellar “Country & Eastern” music experience- fresh from the psychedelic fingertips and hearts of a crew of soul-searching string/mind benders. \nCelebrating friendship and unity! \n We have limited beverages to share complimentary and BYOB IS ALLOWED (no hard alcohol). \n9PM (doors open 8:30pm) $ 20 bucks GTD Sit down Chair $15 bucks Standing\, limited pillow seating. \nThe Illustrious Ancestors features multi-instrumentalist/urban griot John Kruth (TriBeCastan\, Hal Willner) on voice\, ????ELECTRIC MANDOLIN????FLUTE ????ELECTRIC SITAR\, harmonica\, and????BULBAL TARANG (Indian keyed zither)\, \nwith Willie Aron (The Balancing Act\, Syd Straw\, Thee Holy Brothers) on???? KEYBOARD\, ????GUITAR and VOICE\, \n⚡BASSIST⚡ Dave Soyars \n⚡DRUMMER⚡Perry Ostrin \nBlending their own funky brand of Americana roots with interstellar “Country and Eastern” jams (that blend pedal steel guitar and sitar!) the Illustrious Ancestors freely skip from songs to Kruth’s spell-binding and often hilarious stories to funky\, prodigious instrumental improvisation. \nTHE ILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTORS \n“The Illustrious Ancestors bring back the sense of surprise\, mystery and adventure that is missing from so much music today. Good luck trying to corner them into a category—every time you think you’ve got them nailed\, they throw another curve and you’re back where you started from. Add to that the band’s superior musicianship and open-armed embrace of so many different facets of the musical universe\, and you know that the Illustrious Ancestors are truly onto something.” \n– Jeff Tamarkin\, contributor to Mojo\, JazzTimes\, Relix\, & more. \n“What they do is undefinable\, kissed by fearlessness\, charm and mystery. Add to that heartfelt love for musical expression and serious artistry\, along with Kruth’s comic verbal flair. The Illustrious Ancestors\, all gifted players mix up great real-time gumbos of Americana-flavored exotica\, burning brightly on electric mandolin\, electric sitar\, harmonica\, flute\, bulbul tarang (an Indian zither) with Willie Aron on keys …. Kruth has coined the music “Country & Eastern” so that should give you a fair approximation of their music. But better than trusting me\, go to one of their shows – or maybe all of their shows – Be prepared to feel giddy. “– Paul Zollo – Senior Editor – American Songwriter\, Author of Conversations with Tom Petty and Songwriters on Songwriting \n \n“The authentically strange is at a premium these days. Those portals of shamanic transcendence on a planet so plastered with flash and filigree are still there for the adventurous… ya just gotta poke around\, and if you’re lucky\, you will find yourself in the same room with the Illustrious Ancestors. What kind of music is this? With its groove and ooze and tonic and spirit\, the Illustrious Ancestors’ music shimmers and segues to and fro: psychedelic blues\, jazz (funky and free)\, banshee bluegrass\, poetry kooky and sublime\, Mississippi Metal\, folk fantabulous and fearsome\, sublime “Space” worthy of the Dead’s late ‘60s best\, if Pigpen were still alive and morphed into a surrealist poet\, rhythms global and local… blink your ears and you’ll miss a reference or knowing gesture. There’s real drama here\, the kind that gets you gazing into that eternal/internal mirror and ponder what’s going to happen next. There’s wise\, sly humor and genuine romance here too. The kind that will put a smile on your puss and keep it there till it hurts as your heart reminds what a great thing it is to be alive.” – Oliver Trager – Author of The American Book of the Dead: The Definitive Grateful Dead Encyclopedia; Keys to the Rain: The Definitive Bob Dylan Encyclopedia and Dig Infinity! The Life & Art of Lord Buckley \n \n“What happens when the Garage rock of ? Mark and the Mysterians goes on a Country bender and then hitches a ride with a refugee Beat Jazz band on the lam? You wind up with The Illustrious Ancestors’ shadowy echoes of the Doors and the Dead tripping in the backseat.” – Kevin Orton Soundblab \n \n“John Kruth is the high-octane raconteur of the Underground” – Legendary Beat composer/musician/author David Amram \nAs Chief Black Fox (Sitting Bull’s Great\, Great\, Grandson) said after the Illustrious Ancestors second show: “I hear a lot of music\, see a lot of bands\, most of them have no soul. But this band\, The Illustrious Ancestors has a very big soul.” \n“I feel like I’m having a psycho-active experience and I didn’t even eat any ‘shrooms!” – Young Fan \nGuest Ancestors at past shows have included Camper Van Beethoven’s Victor Krummenacher on guitar and voice\, and Jonathan Segel\, violin\, guitar and voice\, as well as Victoria Williams on vocals and Chinese harp – So you’ll never know who is going to show up to jam!

He leads the acclaimed modern tango outfits Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet and Redwood Tango Ensemble\, and is the director of the Twin Cities Tango Collective. Charles is a deeply established musician and community organizer with a distinct voice in creative new music\, stemming from his upbringing in jazz/improvised music and decades of tango composition and performance. His projects Redwood Tango Ensemble and Colorlist have toured North America and Europe extensively\, playing hundreds of performances annually and producing four albums of original contemporary tango music. Charles has premiered his compositions with Chamber Music Northwest Festival and the San Francisco International Arts Festival\, worked with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra\, the Chicago Chorale\, the California Symphony\, Vocal Essence at Orchestra Hall\, Mason Bates’ Mercury Soul Orchestra\, and many other orchestral and chamber music organizations. Charles has recorded and toured with international tango projects\, including Mariano Barreiro Tango Trio\, Tango BC Quartet\, Alejandro Ziegler Cuarteto\, Maxi Larrea Trio\, Maldito Tango\, and Los Tangueros Del Oeste. \n \nBASMA EDREES \nBasma Edrees is a graduate of The Juilliard School where she received her Masters in Violin Performance and Mannes School of Music where she received her Bachelors degree. \nBasma has performed as a soloist in various countries including the USA\, Montenegro\, Ethiopia and her native country\, Egypt.  \nEqually at home with Arabic music\, Basma is the founder of Music in-Takht; an instrumental ensemble dedicated to preserving Egyptian musical heritage in the SF Bay Area. She performed with renowned musicians from the Arab world and has been invited to give Arabic Music workshops at UC Berkeley and Stanford. \nThrough the music of Astor Piazzolla\, Basma was introduced to the world of Argentine Tango music where she encountered some of the most beautiful lyrical melodies she had ever heard. Playing Tango\, Basma found a medium where her Western classical training and the sentiments of her Arab musical heritage could come together. Basma studied Tango violin with Guillermo Rubino\, who is the director of strings at the Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce. She is currently a member of Lee/Edrees Tango Duo with Bay Area Tango pianist Sumi Lee as well as the Charles Gorczynski Tango quartet West. \n \nELYSE WEAKLEY \nElyse Weakley has taken part in a wide array of musical projects and has served in many roles including: music director\, pianist\, educator and composer. Throughout her career she has performed many contemporary works and has frequently collaborated directly with composers and songwriters in recording and presenting their music as a soloist and collaborator including The Hurd Ensemble and Redwood Tango Ensemble. \n \nSascha Jacobsen – Contrabass \nJacobsen was born in a remote cabin in the woods in 1973 to “hippie” parents who moved from the Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco to Humboldt County and grew vegetables. And although his parents were not particularly musical\, you could say he has musical genes. His great-great-great-great grandfather was a bassist for the Moscow Opera and his great-grandfather\, his namesake\, was a famous Russian violinist who became the concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and gave lessons to his friend\, Albert Einstein.

SUMMARY:HAVANA LIBRE – TFF's Monthly Friday Screening & Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Come hang out with us every month for our Friday Screening Series – it’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend with some great movies!\n\n\nMonthly Friday Screening Series\n \nWelcome to our Monthly Friday Screening Series! Join us at Corazón Performing Arts for a night of cinematic magic every month. Sit back\, relax\, and enjoy a handpicked selection of films in our cozy venue. Whether you’re a movie buff or just looking for a fun night out\, this event is perfect for you. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to experience the magic of the big screen with fellow film enthusiasts. \n \nABOUT THE FILM: \nIn Cuba\, where people fled en masse from Fidel Castro’s regime\, surfing and other water activities have been banned for decades. Today\, surfing exists in a murky legal gray area and is viewed with suspicion by the Cuban authorities. \nDespite these challenges\, a group of passionate Cuban surfers is determined to carve out a place for surfing in the country’s culture of athletic excellence. Frank is the group’s de facto leader\, and many regard to be the best surfer on the island. Yaya is a community leader and surfer who is determined to ensure that the next generation can surf freely. When surfing is announced as an official sport for the Tokyo Olympics\, they see their chance to bring their sport out of the shadows and on to the world stage. What follows is a tale of underground surfers building their own boards from scratch\, dodging the authorities as they travel the island looking for the perfect wave\, and attempting to legitimize their passion by persuading the Cuban authorities to field an Olympic team. \nWhen Frank is invited to participate in a qualifier event out of the country\, he must decide whether to compete\, which would mean embarking on an illegal journey and risking permanent separation from his wife and newborn baby. Yaya is similarly torn when she is invited to participate in a surf symposium in Hawaii. Havana Libre is a story of people following their passion at great danger to themselves and ultimately begs the question: what would you risk to chase your dreams?

SUMMARY:JEREMY SOLE AT CORAZON
DESCRIPTION:Collecting vinyl from around the world for over 30 years\, Jeremy Sole’s DJ sets and remixes juxtapose global sounds into a sonic ritual\n\n\nJeremy Sole plays FRI MARCH 8th 9PM Topanga Canyon…perhaps one of the most unique\, wild and untamed areas in Los Angeles. For Real. Come enjoy the night!! \n \n\n$20 bucks or 2 for $30.\nFull Jeremy Sole support: $25\nCorazon monthly members 50% discount (at door). Collecting vinyl from around the world for over 30 years\, his DJ sets and remixes juxtapose global sounds into a sonic ritual for the “genre non-conforming”\, blending or downright transcending era\, style and tempo. \nSole has had the honor of sharing the stage and/or recording in the studio with hundreds of his inspirations over his career including Stevie Wonder\, Roy Ayers\, Parliament Funkadelic\, Chaka Khan\, Moses Sumney\, James Blake and many more. Gilles Peterson named Sole “#2 DJ Of The Year\, 2011” as well as “Radio Show Of The Year\, 2014”. \nSole was the last DJ to open for both Ray Charles and Gil Scott-Heron on what turned out to be their final concerts. He deejayed for Sly Stone’s birthday party\, worked on music for a year with Ms. Lauryn Hill and enlisted the same Daptone musicians as Amy Winehouse to produce a live\, all-analog reimagining of the 1976 classic “Golden Years” for David Bowie in his final days. He was asked to spin traditional New Orleans funeral dirges atop a giant animatronic octopus with Susan Sarandon\, leading a procession of hundreds through Burning Man to bring Timothy Leary’s ashes to the temple. It’s been a wild and freaky ride. \nSole is most widely known for his weekly KCRW radio show\, now approaching its 17th year\, where he helped break many now-major artists with their first radio plays including Black Pumas\, Hiatus Kaiyote\, Michael Kiwanuka\, The Shakes (now Alabama Shakes). He aired the world radio debuts of music for Santana\, Chicano Batman\, Gary Clark Jr\, Yusuf (Cat Stevens)\, Aaron Frazer\, Gaslamp Killer\, Saul Williams and countless others. This is his weekly “mixtape love letter” to the world\, weaving a rich\, soulful tapestry of culture and emotion. LISTEN BACK TO THE ARCHIVES AT WWW.KCRW.COM/JEREMYSOLE \nAs Co-Founder and resident DJ of AFRO FUNKÉ\, Sole and his partners drew a loyal crowd to the now-legendary Zanzibar in Santa Monica every week for 15 years. This was his arena for Afrobeat\, Latin\, Brazilian\, Jamaican and other sounds from around the world. Hundreds of international artists and deejays joined him on stage over the years – memories of Prince and his entourage on the dancefloor and impromptu jam sessions with Stevie Wonder\, Zap Mama and other legends. \nLE FRIQUE SONIQUE\, his newest incarnation\, is the only recurring event he currently curates and produces\, flying in his absolute bucket list of world renowned DJ and musician friends to join him at his monthly soundclash at the Moroccan Lounge\, on the outskirts of Little Tokyo and the DTLA Arts District. \nSole has also produced official remixes for BECK (US)\, FEMI KUTI (Nigeria)\, JAZZANOVA (Germany)\, THIEVERY CORPORATION (US)\, ALSARAH (Sudan)\, SOLA ROSA (New Zealand)\, NOVALIMA (Peru)\, ROCKY DAWUNI (Ghana)\, QUANTIC (Colombia)\, DOM LA NENA (Brasil) and others. \n. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .• CLIENTS: Apple\, Ace Hotels\, David Lynch Foundation\, Ford Theatre\, The Getty Museum\, Grand Park\, Grand Performances\, Herman Miller\, Hollywood Bowl\, House Of Blues\, Mike D (Beastie Boys)\, The MOCA\, NeueHouse\, Nike\, Obey/Shepherd Fairey\, Paul Allen\, Quincy Jones\, Sony\, Tourism Australia.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . \n• PRESS/ARTIST QUOTES: \n“Jeremy Sole is one of the deejays that we both admire hugely and certainly check his lists and radio show …a real sort-of bohemian of the old school variety. SUMMARY:Tuvan Shamanism and Throatsinging with Chingiz Kam and Arrington de Dionyso
DESCRIPTION:Join an evening of Tuvan Shamanism and Throatsinging with Chingiz Kam and Arrington de Dionyso. Chingiz Kam is an initiated hereditary shaman from Tuva now living in New York City. He will conduct an authentic ritual for powerful healing adapted for the space of PRS while sharing his personal “Algysh” an ancient genre of spirit-song used by Tuvan shamans in every sacred setting. www.tuvankam.com \nArrington de Dionyso will present “Voice Mask” a musical performance ritual utilizing improvisatory structures to showcase an entrancing virtuosity with a variety of extended vocal techniques such as traditional Tuvan throatsinging combined with simple elements such as aluminum foil and PVC pipes to enchance the “soul” of vocal sound. \nAs a “punk ethnomusicologist gone rogue”\, Arrington has traveled the world in search of primordially potent sounds. He’s worked extensively with the Jathilan trance music traditions of East Java\, the Master Musicians of Jajouka (Morocco)\, and is a devoted student of Siberian shamanism. www.arrington.bandcamp.com \nPillow seating: PAY AT DOOR CASH OR CARD\, APPLY PAY VENMO ETC\n$33 or 2 for $55(chair available upon request)\n$15 Corazon Membership price \nMORE ABOUT CHINGIZ KAM\nIn Chingiz’s own words: “I was born on the banks of the mighty Siberian river Yenisei and raised in the city of Kyzyl\, Republic of Tuva (Russia\, Siberia). I have the title of Brown Bear Shaman. In my family\, both on my fathe’s side and on my mother’s side\, there were ancestors of shamans. Ancestors come from Tes-Khemsky and Ovyursky districts\, the Republic of Tuva\, which is located on the border with Mongolia.Childhood and youth were mostly spent at the shepherd’s camp of my grandparents. They have kept their culture of nomadic life up to the present. Every vacation I came to them and helped them with the housework. During this time\, my special connection and love for nature and animals was formed. Just like all Tuvans always\, I pastured sheep and goats\, sang songs in the steppes and in the mountains. I recognized life around me through the prism of Tuvan traditions.During this period\, I met many spirits of the mountains\, taiga\, and rivers of my native places. They sometimes appeared in the form of deer\, bear\, wolf\, snowy owl\, eagle and other animals\, and sometimes as strong strange short winds. All my life I clearly felt that someone was watching me closely. They were invisible defenders. \nWhen I was very ill\, my ancestors came in dreams in the guise of various familiar people and fumigated with the help of artysh (juniper)\, after which I quickly began to recover. I have never been able to get lost in a dense forest or in an unfamiliar area. I felt many strange inexplicable things very accurately and my correct decisions were formed from this. Some people felt that I was a shaman and asked me to make charms and amulets. Ancestral shamans also gave life lessons and the necessary knowledge for shamanic practice to one degree or another. They began to actively “work” at the time when I was about 27 years old. At that time\, I had already graduated from the university and worked in my specialty. Any technique stopped working next to me\, because of this there were problems at work. Reality seemed to become unreal and I experienced health problems\, but the results of all tests showed that I was healthy. This went on for a couple of years\, until the ancestors of the shamans “in their own ways” found me a mentor – a practicing Tuvan shaman\, who is also a member of the “Adyg Eeren” society.I was initiated by three strongest shamans of the “Adyg Eeren” society\, one of whom was the Supreme Shaman of Tuva. So I started my practice in a shamanic clinic in Kyzyl.”Chingiz will be the first shaman of his lineage to travel to the West Coast of the United States.

Sam’s music is intimate\, intricate\, and lush in lyrical imagery with seemingly as much influence from music as poetry and literature. This mixed with the support of his band brings a sound both invitingly familiar and completely fresh\, invoking the attention to lyrical and instrumental detail from yesteryear while blending in modern sensibilities and feel. The band is comprised of Sam Small on lead vocals and guitar\, John Would on guitar and lap steel\, Devon Geyer on bass\, and Burleigh Drummond on drums and harmony vocals.
