SUMMARY:The UnJam Circle - Topanga Canyon
DESCRIPTION:UnJam Circle offers an opportunity to express musically & theatrically in a safe container void of judgment using rhythm\, melody\, & harmony\n\n\nThe UnJam Circle. What is it? A performance? No. Talent show? No. A jam session? No. A karaoke night? No.\n \nThe UnJam Circle offers our community an opportunity to express themselves musically and theatrically in a safe container void of judgment and criticism\, as well as encourages participants to practice leadership skills using rhythm\, melody\, and harmony as the tools for engagement. When you feel ready to introduce your heart song to the group\, you must assume the responsibility to “be the jam leader”. How effectively can you help us start and end the song at the same time? And how might you cue us so that between the beginning and the end\, we experience the magic available to a room full of people willing to use their instruments together? Everyone was born with the instruments of the voice for melody and the skin for rhythm. That means we are all born musicians. So bring your instruments and a song idea! Could be a well known radio hit\, or a nursery rhyme your grandmother used to sing to you\, or something original that you’ve written\, and witness yourself as the master conductor for an orchestra of curiosity\, generosity\, and good people. And if you don’t feel ready to lead the jam and only wish to sing and have a good time\, then your presence becomes the highest value of all because we only have time for a few songs each night\, but each song needs every voice to come alive. So we’ll see you and hear you there. \nDonations Appreciated. No one turned away for lack of funds.

SUMMARY:The Illustrious Ancestors | Interstellar Country & Eastern Psychedelic folk
DESCRIPTION:evening of interstellar cosmic stuff – fresh from the fingertips and hearts of this crew of soul searching string/mind benders mandolin\n\n\nILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTORS return. An Interstellar Country & Eastern music experience- fresh from the psychedelic fingertips and hearts of a crew of soul searching string/mind benders. \n We have limited beverages to share complimentary and BYOB IS ALLOWED (no hard alcohol). \nThe Illustrious Ancestors features multi-instrumentalist/urban griot John Kruth (TriBeCastan\, Hal Willner) on voice\, ?ELECTRIC MANDOLIN?FLUTE ?ELECTRIC SITAR\, harmonica\, and?BULBAL TARANG (Indian keyed zither)\, \nwith Willie Aron (The Balancing Act\, Syd Straw\, Thee Holy Brothers) on? KEYBOARD\, ?GUITAR and VOICE\, \n⚡BASSIST⚡ Dave Soyars \n⚡DRUMMER⚡ Devin Flynn \nBlending their own funky brand of Americana roots with interstellar “Country and Eastern” jams (that blend pedal steel guitar and sitar!) the Illustrious Ancestors freely skip from songs to Kruth’s spell-binding and often hilarious stories to funky\, prodigious instrumental improvisation. \nTHE ILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTORS \n“The Illustrious Ancestors bring back the sense of surprise\, mystery and adventure that is missing from so much music today. Good luck trying to corner them into a category—every time you think you’ve got them nailed\, they throw another curve and you’re back where you started from. Add to that the band’s superior musicianship and open-armed embrace of so many different facets of the musical universe\, and you know that the Illustrious Ancestors are truly onto something.” \n– Jeff Tamarkin\, contributor to Mojo\, JazzTimes\, Relix\, & more. \n“What they do is undefinable\, kissed by fearlessness\, charm and mystery. Add to that heartfelt love for musical expression and serious artistry\, along with Kruth’s comic verbal flair. The Illustrious Ancestors\, all gifted players mix up great real-time gumbos of Americana-flavored exotica\, burning brightly on electric mandolin\, electric sitar\, harmonica\, flute\, bulbul tarang (an Indian zither) with Willie Aron on keys and Joel Martin’s spectral pedal steel. Kruth has coined the music “Country & Eastern” so that should give you a fair approximation of their music. But better than trusting me\, go to one of their shows – or maybe all of their shows – Be prepared to feel giddy. “– Paul Zollo – Senior Editor – American Songwriter\, Author of Conversations with Tom Petty and Songwriters on Songwriting \n \n“The authentically strange is at a premium these days. Those portals of shamanic transcendence on a planet so plastered with flash and filigree are still there for the adventurous… ya just gotta poke around\, and if you’re lucky\, you will find yourself in the same room with the Illustrious Ancestors. What kind of music is this? With its groove and ooze and tonic and spirit\, the Illustrious Ancestors’ music shimmers and segues to and fro: psychedelic blues\, jazz (funky and free)\, banshee bluegrass\, poetry kooky and sublime\, Mississippi Metal\, folk fantabulous and fearsome\, sublime “Space” worthy of the Dead’s late ‘60s best\, if Pigpen were still alive and morphed into a surrealist poet\, rhythms global and local… blink your ears and you’ll miss a reference or knowing gesture. There’s real drama here\, the kind that gets you gazing into that eternal/internal mirror and ponder what’s going to happen next. There’s wise\, sly humor and genuine romance here too. The kind that will put a smile on your puss and keep it there till it hurts as your heart reminds what a great thing it is to be alive.” – Oliver Trager – Author of The American Book of the Dead: The Definitive Grateful Dead Encyclopedia; Keys to the Rain: The Definitive Bob Dylan Encyclopedia and Dig Infinity! The Life & Art of Lord Buckley \n \n“What happens when the Garage rock of ? Mark and the Mysterians goes on a Country bender and then hitches a ride with a refugee Beat Jazz band on the lam? You wind up with The Illustrious Ancestors’ shadowy echoes of the Doors and the Dead tripping in the backseat.” – Kevin Orton Soundblab \n \n“John Kruth is the high-octane raconteur of the Underground” – Legendary Beat composer/musician/author David Amram \nAs Chief Black Fox (Sitting Bull’s Great\, Great\, Grandson) said after the Illustrious Ancestors second show: “I hear a lot of music\, see a lot of bands\, most of them have no soul. SUMMARY:Fantuzzi's Mystic Latin\, Reggae\, Afro-Funk at Corazon
DESCRIPTION:Fantuzzi is joined by the consummate Flexibles\, Luis Conte and Wadada\, for extraordinary night of Global Music\, Drumming\, Dancing and Song\n\n\nTwo amazing musician friends of Fantuzzi’s will be joining him for this rare night of aural pleasure. Check out these histories:\n \n \nPercussionist – Luis Conte\n \n \nLuis Conte’s genius stems from his ability to integrate the powerful rhythms of his native Cuba with the American necessities of American pop music. His long and varied career has included numerous Hollywood film scores and mega-successful albums with Madonna\, Ray Charles\, Phil Collins\, Santana\, Shakira\, Jackson Browne\, Sergio Mendes\, Cachao\, and a multitude of other artists too numerous to mention.\n \n \nBorn in Santiago\, Cuba\, Luis spent the first 15 years of his life soaking up the rich musical heritage of “El Son” and Carnival. “Life in Cuba is all about enjoying life\, and music is central to that lifestyle\,” Luis says. “Music is almost like food to Cuban people.” While immersed in the music of his native Cuba\, Luis also developed a passion for Rock & Roll\, R&B soul music\, jazz\, and the Beatles.\n \n \nAt 15\, looking for freedom\, Luis emigrated to Madrid\, Spain. He soon had another opportunity to travel\, this time to Hollywood. In California\, Luis stayed with a cousin and attended Hollywood High School\, playing guitar in numerous rock bands throughout his teens.\n \n \nAfter high school\, Luis met John Monteallegre\, who reunited him with Cuban drums at LA City College. By the time he was 18\, Luis was intensely interested in drumming and took every opportunity to play and to learn\, drawing his inspiration from a deep source of rhythm absorbed during his youth in Cuba.\n \n \nSince then\, Luis has become one of the most respected and recorded percussionists in the world.\n \n \nhttps://www.luisconte.com\n \n \n***************************************************************************************************************\n \n \nTrumpeter – Wadada\n \n \nWadada Leo Smith was born in Leland\, Mississippi\, and his musical life began in high school concert and marching bands. At the age of thirteen\, he became involved with the Delta Blues and other music traditions. His formal musical education came from his stepfather Alex “Little Bill” Wallace\, composer and guitarist\, and one of the pioneers of electric guitar in Delta Blues.\n \n \nWadada Leo Smith\, trumpeter\, multi-instrumentalist\, composer\, and improviser is one of the most acclaimed creative artists of his times\, both for his music and his writings. For the last five decades\, Mr. Smith has been a member of the historical and legendary AACM collective. He distinctly defines his music as “Creative Music.” Mr. Smith’s diverse discography reveals a recorded history centered around important issues that have impacted his world.\n \n \nMr. Smith was also honored by the Jazz Journalists Association as their 2017 Musician of the Year as well as the 2017 Duo of the Year for his work with Vijay Iyer. The JJA also named him their 2016 Trumpeter of the Year\, 2015 Composer of the Year\, and 2013 Musician of the Year. Also\, in 2013 he was also selected as DownBeat’s Composer of the Year and he graced the cover of that magazine in November 2016.\n \n \nhttps://www.wadadaleosmith.com\n \n \nSO PLEASE\, if you are able\, give generously to enable these talented folk to keep traveling\, performing\, and making us happy for as long as possible! It’s a beautiful world.

Called “hot\, gritty and intoxicating” by the Village Voice and “a wild man… [who] makes me scream out ‘Ole!’” by Dance Insider.\n-~Singer Mari Peña with the inspiring “tocaor” Antonio Moya. Be amazed by traditional Flamenco orchestration along with the spark of scintillating fusion pieces.\n$45. THIS IS A SIT-DOWN EVENT WITH LIMITED OUTSIDE GARDEN LISTENING AND LIMITED STANDING ROOM. You can take your chance at door for standing or outside private garden listening.\n“-un desgarrador homenaje a los románticos de lo jond” ~Alberto García Reyes\, ABC.\nTRANSLATION: ” A heart-wrenching homage to the romantics of pure flamenco”\n‘LA CHIMI’\, a remarkable ascent–which is no surprise considering her childhood and family history. Both of her parents are freelance performing artists. She grew up immersed in ethnic music and dance and it was natural for her to discover a career in flamenco. With her background in flamenco\, classical\, and contemporary dance Lakshmi was fortunate to quickly be embraced by artists in Spain and has come to work aside great artists such as Manuel Molina\, Remedios Amaya\, Joselito Mendez\, Antonio Moya\, La Hermenia\, Carmen Ledesma\, Antonio Rey and La Tona.\n‘EL CHUPETE’\, Coming from Seville\, Antonio Rodríguez El Chupete is a body that generates an igneous dance. The US press has called him El Salvaje \, promoter of “a friction-filled\, addictive dance.” To contemplate him is\, in effect\, to be captivated by his genuine way of approaching this art\, outside any guideline that can be considered canon. He marches\, charges\, twists\, gets inside himself; his bushy giant’s beard gives him the look of a wolf or ogre\, but within his eyes shines a deeply moving tenderness\, which sometimes translates into gentle movement passes. As unusual as unforgettable.\nANTONIO MOYA AND MARI PEÑA\, Antonio Moya (Nimes\, 1965)\, guitarist\, or “tocaor” as he prefers to be called\, born in France to a family of Andalusian immigrants\, together with his wife flamenco singer Mari Peña\, lives in Utrera. Mari Peña powerful voice\, is one of the last representatives of the singing of Lebrija and Utrera in Andalusia. Moya is also artistically connected to Lebrija and Morón de la Frontera\, and whose aroma of earth and olive trees is present in his playing\, with a subtle modern patina. He has accompanied and recorded with Bernarda de Utrera\, Pepa de Benito\, Gaspar de Utrera\, Enrique Extremeño and Tomás de Perrate among others.\nAntonio Moya: “Culture is an important element of society\, and we make culture”
