Teaching himself guitar for a decade\, he began to study classical guitar at age 20\, finally earning a degree in classical guitar. After playing at churches\, local venues and in Papa Wemba’s traditional group Percussion Molokai\, Jason decided to travel to South Africa and expose himself to more opportunities. It was there that he became a guitarist for the group Afro Fiesta. The group’s first self-titled album\, released in 2005\, is full of songs that are a fusion of various styles including Afro-jazz\, Kwasa-Kwasa\, Makosa\, and hints of Latin music. Widely considered innovators in the entertainment industry\, Afro Fiesta has performed at numerous music festivals including Jazz on the Rocks\, Joy of Jazz\, OBZ Festival\, Light Festival and Africa Day Celebrations. \nJason has been a key member of the Playing For Change Band since 2008 in which capacity he has performed on all five continents. As a performer in Playing For Change Songs Around The World videos Jason has been featured alongside such luminaries as Bono\, members of the Grateful Dead\, Peter Gabriel and many others! In this capacity Tamba has been seen by hundreds of millions globally. As a live performer Jason has shared the stage with Taj Mahal\, Keb Mo\, Toots Hibbert\, Ziggy Marley and Robert Plant amongst other legends of music!

DESCRIPTION:This is an ALL ages Flamenco Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’  class\n\n\n6PM- 7:30PM – Flamenco Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’  \n \nThis is a two-for-one class where we will start off with some flamenco technique (Arm work\, footwork\, palmas\, body alignment\, flamenco movement stylization) and end by learning the 4 ‘Sevillanas’ verses.  ‘Sevillanas’ is a fun partner dance that has four parts and is performed during Feria in April all over Andalucia Spain.\n \n \nFlamenco is a series of powerful rhythms and movements- ‘armwork’/braceo\, hand clapping/palmas\, rhythmic body movements/marcajes\, ‘foot work’/zapateado\n \n \n  We will learn the movements and connect in tandem with the rhythm in order to feel flamenco- to dance. Performs solo as well as with artists such as Mick Goodrick\, Tim Miller\, Peter Erskine\, Jerry Bergonzi\, David Binney and Tatiana Parra.  Recent awards and publications include First Prize at the Achava Jazz Award (Erfurt\, Germany – 2017)\, Chamber Music America Grant for New Jazz Works program funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (New York\, NY – 2017)\, and a release of Peter Erskine New Trio album “In Praise of Shadows”. \n \nETHAN MARGOLIS was raised in a musical family out of Cleveland\, OH\,  transitioning his singer-songwriter/ Punk Rock background to become a Flamenco guitarist at age 19. He spent the next 11 years immersed in the Gypsy/Roma circuit of Andalucía most specifically amongst the Pinini Family of Roma/Gypsy singers. With ith the desire to support roots Andalusian Roma Song (Cante Gitano Andaluz)\, Margolis premiered his Flamenco touring company ‘Arte Y Pureza”\,  touring internationally for  six years. Upon moving to Los Angeles\, Margolis dedicated himself to further investigations of the essential ties between Jazz\, Blues\, and Flamenco.  \nMargolis’s first album release for a jazz quintet was in 2014 with Soleangeles and his second album\, Sonikete Blues explored the similar spirits of Delta Blues and Flamenco rhythms. It was featured as an iTunes editor’s choice in the contemporary Blues category and received high praise from producers like Ricardo Pachón (Camarón de la Isla) and Larry Cohn (Robert Johnson Anthology and Sony’s Roots n Blues series). All About Jazz’s editor featured a full article on Margolis’s career and album. Sonikete Blues was later rated by Spanish music critic\, José Manuel Gómez\, in the top 40 Flamenco fusion albums of all time.  \nMargolis has continued to record and perform with a recent EP release in 2022 entitled En Madrid featuring Cuban virtuoso pianist\, Caramelo de Cuba. He is currently working on an original trio album with bassist\, Larry Grenadier and drummer\, Eric Harland. Margolis is an endorsed artist for FISHMAN musical electronics.

He has focused his studies in the creative tradition of Indian classical raga music in which he has been rigorously trained for the past 25 years in India and the US studying under the late Amiya Dasgupta\, Rajeev Taranath and the living legend Pandit Ravi Shankar.Paul has performed in around the US\, Mexico\, Europe & Asia and has just returned from a major concert tour performing Indian music in Nepal\, India\, Czech & Germany. \nINDRANIL MALLICK\,  Tabla \nIndranil Mallick is a representative of the Lucknow Gharana (style of tabla playing). He is one of the most prominent tabla players of his generation with rare skill\, established as a soloist and accompanist. Born to a family of music connoisseurs\, he received his initial training in tabla when he was only five years old from his uncle\, Sri Montu Mallick. Later he was trained by Prof. Dhabol Bandyapadhaya. From 1985 he was under the guidance of Sri Uttam Chakraborty\, senior disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri. Now he is under the guidance of  Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri\, belonging to the Luckhnow Gharana style of tabla. \n \nAmong his numerous awards and distinctions in tabla performance he stood first in the Yuva Utsav organized by the state Government of West Bengal. In 1997 he stood first in the prestigious Dover Lane Music Competition and earned “The Best Talent Of The Year” for 1996-97\, trophy awarded by the H.M.V Music Corporation. Indranil holds a “Sangeet Visarad”\, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music focused on tabla\, from the University of Chandigarh\, which he earned in 1999.He also earned ” Sangeet Kala Ratna” in the year 2006. \n \nKeeping a rigorous performance schedule\, Indranil continues to perform with  renowned artists  in various music conferences in India and abroad. Some of these are The Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata\, West Bengal State Music Academy Annual Convocation Concert\, “The GolPark Rama Krishna Mission” Kolkata\, Annual Conference of Spicmacay in AgartalaSangeet Gana Sabha in Visaka Pattanam\, Spicmacay tour in Madhya Pradesh\, Dadar Matunga Music conference\, Mumbai (A Hundred years music organisatin)\, Baba Alauddin Khan Sangeet Samaraho\, Maihar\, Santipur Sangeet Sammelan\, Kolkata\, Nabarang Sangeet Sammelan\, Kolkata\, Kerala Music Festival\, Music Festival in Patna and others…. \n \nIn 2002 Indranil began international touring with performances in Europe\, USA\, Canada\, UK\, Germany\, Switzerland \, Ukraine \, Estonia\, Russia\, Austria and Holland. During these tours he represented India in many world renowned festivals. Some examples include the Open Baroque Festival in Estonia\, The Musica Sacra International Festival in Germany\, and the International Jazz and Blues festival in Austria. \n \nIndranil is a grade ‘A’ artist of All India Radio\, Kolkata where he is featured regularly on programs aired throughout India. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from Rabindra Bharati University\, Kolkata. \n \nOINDRILA ROY\, Bharatynam – Trained initially under late Guru K. P.P Thampi from the age of five. Oindrila honed her dance skills further under Legendary Guru Khagendra Nath Barman\, one of the most senior disciples of Guru Rukmini Devi Arundale\, Founder of unique “Kalakshetra”Style (Bharataatyam).From 2011 She started leaning under the guidance of Guru Abhoy Pal  of kalamandalam Style. So Oindrla’s dance reflects the cumulative richness of her learning experience. Her passion remains deeply rooted in classical dance. When she realizes that the lion and the witch are all part of who she is today\, she arrives at the threshold of self-acceptance. \nKristy Beauvais\, Flounder & Executive Director FOCUSfish\, Writer/Performer/Director/Choreographer\n \n \nKristy comes from a family of health and fitness entrepreneurs. Her mother was one of the original New Orleans Saints dancers who operated her own successful dance studio. Kristy’s father was a professional bodybuilder who opened and ran his own gym in New Orleans. Choreographing competitive posing routines for large\, pumped up men was a normal childhood activity for Kristy.\n \nKristy has tapped all of her previous influences and experiences\, including musical theatre\, Bunraku “rod” puppetry\, live hosting and improvisation\, Butoh dance\, aerobics instruction\, personal training\, aerial training\, comedy and on-camera acting\, to create FOCUSfish. The FOCUSfish name and philosophies were born through the broad variety of movement\, dance and fitness classes Kristy has taught at gyms such as Crunch Gym in New York and Los Angeles\, and performance studios such as the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Los Angeles. Now residing in Los Angeles\, Kristy has carved a niche for herself with her efforts to provide intelligent\, creative physical fitness instruction for children in the area’s public & private schools.  Kristy has been directing and choreographing children’s theatre in Topanga since 2007.\n \nKristy is happy to back in the theatre as a performer\, after her successful run at The Hollywood Fringe Festival 2022.  She has been invited to be a part of The United Solo Festival in NYC this November. DESCRIPTION:This is an ALL ages Flamenco Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’  class\n\n\n6PM- 7:30PM – Flamenco Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’  \n \nThis is a two-for-one class where we will start off with some flamenco technique (Arm work\, footwork\, palmas\, body alignment\, flamenco movement stylization) and end by learning the 4 ‘Sevillanas’ verses.  ‘Sevillanas’ is a fun partner dance that has four parts and is performed during Feria in April all over Andalucia Spain.\n \n \nFlamenco is a series of powerful rhythms and movements- ‘armwork’/braceo\, hand clapping/palmas\, rhythmic body movements/marcajes\, ‘foot work’/zapateado\n \n \n  We will learn the movements and connect in tandem with the rhythm in order to feel flamenco- to dance.  Once you move through the technique part of the class Cristina will guide you through the twists\, turns\, and stomps of this powerful dance. The techniques can be done with and without a partner and can be equally enjoyed when dancing with anyone. Instructors from Argentina\, Puerto Rico\, London\, New York\, Africa\, Brazil and various other influential dance havens\, would come teach and perform at his Mother\, Babs’s event center in Wilmington\, North Carolina.\n \n \nPlaying bass\, teaching partner dancing and Djing has been the trinity of creative inspiration for Christian for over 25 years.\n \n \nRachel Stafford\n \n \nRachel Stafford began training in ballet at age three and studied various styles of dance such as modern\, jazz\, tap\, and hip hop. She attended the University of South Carolina to further her training and graduated with a BA in Dance Performance and Choreography. Following\, she joined the U.S. International Ballet Company in Wilmington\, NC. Here she discovered ballroom and partner dance\, as well as a passion for teaching. SUMMARY:Beginning Flamenco Basics Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’
DESCRIPTION:This is an ALL ages Flamenco Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’  class\n\n\n6PM- 7:30PM – Flamenco Beginner Technique and ‘Sevillanas’  \n \nThis is a two-for-one class where we will start off with some flamenco technique (Arm work\, footwork\, palmas\, body alignment\, flamenco movement stylization) and end by learning the 4 ‘Sevillanas’ verses.  ‘Sevillanas’ is a fun partner dance that has four parts and is performed during Feria in April all over Andalucia Spain.\n \n \nFlamenco is a series of powerful rhythms and movements- ‘armwork’/braceo\, hand clapping/palmas\, rhythmic body movements/marcajes\, ‘foot work’/zapateado\n \n \n  We will learn the movements and connect in tandem with the rhythm in order to feel flamenco- to dance.  Once you move through the technique part of the class Cristina will guide you through the twists\, turns\, and stomps of this powerful dance.  It is a great opportunity to try something you always have wanted to experience or a new interest.   Everyone welcome!  No previous experience necessary. While in New York\, she danced in “Carmen” at the Metropolitan Opera\, NYC.  A native Angelina\, Cristina currently performs with Flamenco Flavor dance company in New Jersey\, as well as\, performing with local Flamenco artists throughout Southern California with her dance group Urban Flamenka.  She resides in Los Angeles and will be now sharing her love for flamenco dance teaching at Corazon Performing Arts in Topanga\, CA.
