SUMMARY:No Good Drunk
DESCRIPTION:Gritty\, true stories\, film\, and original songs set to the backdrop of West Texas dive bars and graveyards about alcoholics in my family.\n\n\nFresh off the Edinburgh Festival Fringe\, Stacie Burrows brings her critically-acclaimed solo musical drama No Good Drunk to Corazon Topanga for one night only on October 19 at 7:30. \n \nHaunting\, poetic\, and quietly defiant. \n— The Scotsman \n \nShe is an engaging and self-effacing raconteuse when speaking. But she reaches another\, more powerful level in song. Burrows is nothing if not honest\, and final twist in the story is a real gut-punch. \n— Guy Picot\, Gia on the Move\, Hollywood \n \nA Southern Gothic tale that is as haunting as it is heartfelt. Burrows’ performance is magnetic. Her storytelling is rich with detail and emotion\, keeping the audience riveted throughout the hour-long solo show. \n— Greg Stewart\, Theatre Weekly \n \nThis is a refreshingly raw\, real\, and unique one-woman show which\, owing to its honesty and immediacy\, cements itself as a standout of the genre at this year’s Fringe. \n— Olivia Glover\, EdFringe Review \nNo Good Drunk is a Southern Gothic tale about love gone wrong. A one-hour multi-media performance blending theatre\, film\, and songs by LA-based performer Stacie Burrows set to the backdrop of West Texas dive bars and graveyards. The show is comprised of 8 original songs and true stories that connect the through-line about how alcoholism upended the family. My grandfather drank himself to death in the 50’s in El Paso\, Texas and wound up buried in another woman’s grave. As I move through the generations of the family\, we learn that history doesn’t always repeat itself\, but it often rhymes. This is a tribute to the women who persevered despite being tethered to an addict. \nCorazon Topanga 125 South Topanga Canyon Blvd.

A student of the luminous John Altoon (one of the preeminent artists of West Coast avant-gardism of the 50’s and 60’s)\, Wisdom was introduced\, not only to the fundamentals of figure drawing\, but also to the bold conceptual-based and humanistic thinking which would lay the groundwork for his future endeavors and Peter Voulkos premier Modernist ceramic sculpture and Painter. \n \nWisdom first began exhibiting his own work in San Francisco in the 1970s but withdrew all of his work from galleries in 1974 and spent the following eight years immersed in studio work. That same year he became a lifeguard and the endless hours he spent staring out at the ocean while working on the beaches of Malibu\, Topanga and Zuma contributed to his minimalist vision as a painter. In the oct 1981 while in Germany for an exhibition\, Wisdom painted over 150 meters of the East side of the Berlin wall during the night using searchlights to illuminate his work. He was subsequently arrested\, detained\, and sent back to the U.S. but the experience convinced him that he could no longer work in the static studio environment and soon he began collaborating with punk bands and working in a performative style. Wisdom has been painting to live music ever since with bands like Panic and Banyan along with musicians such as Ireesh Lal (Artronika)\, Nels Cline (Wilco)\, Mike Watt (Iggy Pop)\, and Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction)\, Robby Krieger (The Doors)\, Rich Robinson (The Black Crows) Richie Havens\, Kris Kristofferson and George Clinton to name a few. His live\, improvisational paintings are temporary interpretations of music that only exist during the space of the performance. \n \nNels Cline and Wisdom have collaborated on the project ‘Stained Radiance’ for the last 20 years and have performed at the New York Winter Jazz Fest\, The Fender 50 year Anniversary Celebration of the Jazz Master Guitar at the Knitting Factory (New York)\, Solid Sound Festival at Massachusetts Museum of Art\, Crystal Museum of Art (Arkansas)\, Musik New Music Festival (Victoria\, Canada) and the Big Ear New Music Festival (Knoxville). \n \nWisdom has performed around the world at venues as varied as the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City to Coachella to the Butu Dance Company in Japan\, and locally at the Walt Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles\, Laguna Art Museum\, the Skirball Museum\, and more. He has been live painting with the Los Angeles Flypoet’s Showcase for over 25 years. His paintings and sculptures can be found in the permanent collections of notable museums including the Sheldon Museum of Art Nebraska\, La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art\, the Milwaukee Art Center\, Wisconsin\, The San Diego Museum of art and the Orange County Museum of Art. \n \nKEVIN PARKER: \nLA Based artist/composer kp (kevin parker) creates ethereal soundscapes and dreamy compositions that seek solace in a modern world. Sparse arrangements surrender to swelling walls of sound that are simultaneously melancholy and hopeful. Shimmering guitars echo over swirling loops as time moves backwards and forwards.

SUMMARY:Michela Musolino A NIGHT OF SICILIAN FOLK & ROOTS in Topanga Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Join Michela Musolino for a lively night of Sicilian folk beats and soulful roots in the heart of Topanga Canyon!\n\n\nA NIGHT OF CULTURE ROOTED SICILIAN FOLK at Corazon’s eclectic sacred space in Topanga Canyon! With voice and frame drum\, Michela Musolino sings songs of daily life\, songs of feast days\, songs of protest\, and songs of love…songs that make your heart sing and your feet dance!\n \nMusolino\, a Sicilian-American singer\, explores the musical traditions of her heritage with voice and frame drum. Inspired by her grandmother’s legacy as a frame-drum player\, Musolino has dedicated her career to preserving and reimagining the folk songs of Sicily. Musolino’s current projects include blending Southern Italian traditions with the sounds of the American South\, creating a vibrant new musical dialogue. \nInternationally recognized Sicilian-American singer\, Michela Musolino\, the grand-daughter of Sicilians immigrated to America\, explores cultural roots and shares them with the world through the study and reinterpretation of the folk songs of Sicily and Southern Italy. \nA love for her roots set Musolino on a course of a liftime of exploration of the musical traditions of Sicily – returning again and again to Sicily and Italy to research\, discover\, and perform a tradition of music first identified as its own entity in the mid 1400’s: Sicilian Folk Music. \nHaving grown up listening the language and music from two worlds\, Musolino now weaves the ancient and the modern into melodies and allures with a voice that seems to float between the ages. Musolino has sung in medieval castles and ancient Sicilian temples\, NYC landmarks\, honkey tonks and national folk festivals connecting audiences in a brotherhood of shared emotions and experiences\, conveyed in the songs of her repertoire. \nAn Italian-American born and raised in NJ\, now relocated to Memphis\, new projects combine the richness of the South’s musical roots with Sicilian folk traditions to create a new sound: Sicilian Folk-a-Billy. The South of Italy meets the Southern US in her recent album (recorded and produced in Memphis) in which Sicilian Christmas traditions marry the music traditions from the American South. \n \nDETAILS\n\nSit-down Chair seating: $30 or a companion pass for 2 at $40.00\nPillow seating on Floor: $20 or a companion pass for 2 at $30\nHardship Tix & Corazon Members: $12\nDOORS OPEN 7:45
