Tunisian violinist & vocalist Yasmine Azaiez, bass player Sezin Ahmet, guitarist Adam Ratner and percussionist Randy Gloss. Mesmerizing!

Saturday, November 12th in eclectic Topanga Canyon. An electrifying night, an extensive palette of sounds with Tunisian violinist, composer & Vocalist Yasmine Azaiez joined by talented bass player Sezin Ahmet, guitarist Adam Ratner and percussionist Randy Gloss. You may be too mesmerized to get up and dance! Yasmine’s two sets will bounce between traditional and genre-bending and will include playing works from her EP| African Jasmine.

YASMINE AZAIEZ:

Tunisian/British Violinist, Composer and Vocalist Yasmine Azaiez studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK and went on to study at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Well-versed in a diverse array of genres such as Experimental, Jazz, Rock and North African music, she has performs internationally. She has been sponsored by Wood violins and her Album ‘Fabulous’ was sponsored by Samsung, Tunisia.

Yasmine Azaiez has been elected one of the 100 future leaders of Tunisia. She was also a finalist of nine violinists in the Global youth competition representing Africa and the Middle East and won second prize in the Young Musician of the Year Sevenoaks at the age of seventeen.

Yasmine Azaiez created the ‘Yasmine Azaiez Violin Competition,’ sponsored by the British Council, which aims to aid Tunisian Violinists in getting exposure and monetary prizes. The second edition is set for 2023. As an actress, she has appeared in several TV Series and Movies in Tunisia. In her other interests, Yasmine and her mother run an Animal Rescue in Tunisia, ‘The Yasmine Azaiez Animal rescue’ which works to find homes for abused, homeless and sick animals.

ADAM RATNER is a guitarist, composer and producer based in Los Angeles, CA. He was mentored by bassist Charlie Haden and also studied with Larry Koonse, Alan Pasqua, and Vince Mendoza. Adam has shared the stage and worked with musicians including Larry Goldings, David Binney, Ravi Coltrane, Louis Cole, Genevieve Artadi, Sam Amidon, KNOWER, Sam Wilkes, Sam Gendel, Tim Lefebvre, Pedro Martins, Nate Wood, Frederico Heliodoro, Antonio Loureiro, Darek Oleszkiewicz, Ben Wendel, Jack Conte, Fabiano Do Nascimento, and Niia. His videos with Louis Cole Big Band have totaled over 5-million views on YouTube. He has been recognized at Lincoln Center in New York City as a winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards.

Adam has toured with the experimental pop-electronic group KNOWER, including performances throughout the west coast and at the SF Jazz Festival.

SEZIN AHMET TÜRKMENOĞLU is a bass player who started playing music when he was 11 years old, and completed his high school education at the Guitar department of Istanbul Fine Arts. He received his music degree from Bass Guitar and Double Bass departments of Bilgi University, and performed/recorded with many artists and festivals both in Turkey and overseas. He moved to Los Angeles in August 2012 when I was accepted into the graduate certificate program of University of Southern California (USC) following a video audition.

Sezin has been performing and recording with artists including Grammy-nominated composer, arranger and pianist Otmaro Ruiz to Stanley Jordan, Clayton Cameron, Jimmy Branly, Alan Pasqua, Pat Kelley, Lee Ritenour, Michael Orland, Larry Koonse, Katisse Buckingam, Will Brahm, Chris Wabich, Abe Lagrimas Jr. and countless others.

RANDY GLASS, Percussion

Protégé of renowned percussion vanguard John Bergamo and longtime student of tabla maestro Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Randy Gloss is a percussionist whose background performing several modalities of hand drums, contemporary percussion, and drum set has led to his involvement in many innovative ensembles that fuse world music with new music and jazz.

Most notable for his work with Hands On’Semble, a percussion group devoted to the art of hand drumming created by John Bergamo in 1997 (with Randy Gloss, Andrew Grueschow, and Austin Wrinkle).

Hands On’Semble has performed and lectured throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia at many of the world’s premier percussion and world music festivals, music schools and conservatories, and have collaborated in performance and recording with a wide array of highly esteemed percussion artists from around the world including: Swapan Chaudhuri, Pete Lockett, Poovalur Sriji, Adam Rudolph, Houman Pourmehdi, Brad Dutz, Abbos Kosimov, Glen Velez, Jamey Haddad, Steve Shehan, Mark Nauseef, Ed Mann, Carlos Stasi and Guello. Percussionists and critics worldwide have praised Hands On’Semble’s recorded work (five albums to date), as being some of the most important and interesting of it’s kind.
